Lions Sign Culpepper

Veteran free agent Daunte Culpepper has agreed on a two-year deal with the Detroit Lions after dissing the Kansas City Chiefs on what was supposed to be a signing day, to workout in Allen Park on what he said at the time was "a better opportunity". Terms of the deal haven't been disclosed, but the former Pro Bowl quarterback is expected to join his new team Monday. He will wear jersey No. 11 for the Lions.

This past spring, Daunte declined offers from the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, who were looking for a backup QBs. The opportunity to start was the major reason Culpepper decided to sign with the Lions. The Lions starter Jon Kitna for the season when he was placed on the injured reserve three weeks ago. Current starter Dan Orlovsky has been adequate in his first three NFL starts, however has been criticized for being too conservative.
